  24. Shopping is to St. Martin as sunshine is to the Caribbean.
  25. A good deal of this 'sport' is concentrated in the main town of Philipsburg on the Dutch side. There are internationally recognised gem and jewelry dealers, as well as gift stores, clothing stores and camera/electronic emporiums.

  27. ACCESS TO BEACH:
  28. Parking area on bluff overlooking beach. A dirt footpath follows the shoreline atop the bluff overlooking the beach. Long stairways, carved from the sandstone bluffs, lead down to many of the little coves.

  30. QUALITY OF BEACH:
  31. A series of three sandy coves indented into the sandstone cliffs and separated by rocky promontories; caves and overhanging cliffs provide morning shade only.

  33. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
  34. The intimate coves are used frequently for nude sunbathing, although the only official nude beach is on the French side at Orient Point. The island of St. Martin/ St. Maarten is shared by both the French and Dutch. The main airport is on the Dutch side. (Note: Customs checks are not required while traveling from one country to the other.)
